The Purple Campaign
Goldenrod Glen is a region in the heartland of the Crimson Kingdom’s northern plains. It consists of flat,, farmed plains and gently rolling hills. Its name derives from the yellow flowers that bloom in the fields in the spring and from the precious gold known to lie beneath the hills. A significant amount of the Crimson Kingdom’s gold is mined in Goldenrod Glen, accounting for nearly as much as is mined in the foothills of the Greyback Mountains. It is thus a very important region economically as it contains such valuable resources in a land which control of is not at all contested by foreign powers. Most of the mines in this region are small affairs as the gold veins are somewhat scattered, but all gold from the region eventually finds its way to the fortified town of Algate on the southern shore of Kingbath Lake, where it is carefully processed and cataloged before being loaded onto ferry boats and shipped across the lake on its way north to the capital’s royal treasury and mint. Due to the presence of gold in the region, bandit activity in the hills and along The Goldenroad is ever present and must be constantly monitored by the royally appointed Golden Guard, whose job it is to protect travelers on the road and legitimate mining interests in the hills, fighting off bandits and shutting down illegal claims wherever they are to be found.
